Introduction

SkyCast Pilot ("we," "our," or "the app") is a quick-reference aviation weather tool for pilots. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app sends, what it stores on your device, and — most importantly — what it never collects. SkyCast Pilot has no account, no sign-in, no analytics, and no advertising.

Information We Collect

SkyCast Pilot is designed with privacy in mind. There is no user account and no sign-in. The only information that leaves your device is the ICAO airport identifier you look up (for example, KJFK), which is sent to our weather proxy so we can return the matching METAR, TAF, PIREP, SIGMET, AIRMET, and winds-aloft products. The proxy forwards the request to aviationweather.gov, the FAA's public weather data source.

Data Stored Locally on Your Device:

  • Your favorite airports, including any groups you create
  • Recent searches
  • Cached weather products (METAR, TAF, PIREP, SIGMET, AIRMET, winds aloft) with TTL-based expiry, so the most recent successful pull stays available when your network drops
  • Home-screen widget configuration (the airports you chose to display)
  • App preferences and settings

Information We Do NOT Collect

SkyCast Pilot does not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Personal identification information (name, email, phone number)
  • Account credentials — there are no accounts
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs
  • Device location. The app never requests location permission and never reads location sensors. Airport coordinates shown in the app come from the weather data response itself, not from your device.
  • Usage analytics, telemetry, or behavioral statistics
  • Crash reports (unless you explicitly submit them through your device's system feedback channel)
  • Reading patterns or what airports you favorite

How We Use Your Information

The data SkyCast Pilot stores remains on your device and is used solely to:

  • Display the weather products you requested
  • Restore your favorites and groupings between launches
  • Populate the home-screen widget with your selected airports
  • Serve cached weather products when the network is unavailable, and expire them once the per-product TTL has passed

Network Requests

When you look up an airport, the app sends a request to our weather proxy at myflyingcareer-metar-proxy.aviationweather.workers.dev. The proxy is operated by MyFlyingCareer, runs on Cloudflare Workers, and forwards the request to aviationweather.gov.

What the request contains:

  • The ICAO airport code(s) you looked up, as a query parameter
  • A standard HTTP User-Agent header identifying the app (for example, SkyCastPilot/1.0 (Android))

What the request does not contain:

  • Any device identifier, advertising ID, or installation ID
  • Any account identifier — there are no accounts
  • Your location
  • Any payload beyond the airport identifier

Standard web request logs (your IP address, the URL requested, the user-agent, and a timestamp) may be retained at the Cloudflare / proxy layer for operational purposes such as abuse prevention and capacity planning. These logs are not joined with any user identity (we don't have one), are not used for analytics or advertising, and are not shared with third parties.

Data Security

All network requests use HTTPS. Data stored on your device is held in the app's private storage area and is protected by Android's standard application sandboxing. Because no personal account or profile leaves the device, there is nothing tied to you for a third party to intercept or access.

Third-Party Services

SkyCast Pilot does not embed any third-party analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or tracking SDKs. There is no Firebase, Crashlytics, Google Analytics, ad network, or behavioral SDK in the app.

The only third party involved in the data flow is aviationweather.gov, which is the upstream the proxy queries on your behalf for the weather products themselves.

Your Rights and Choices

You have complete control over your data:

  • Manage favorites: Add, rename, group, or remove any favorite at any time
  • Clear cached weather: Use the option in Settings to drop the on-device weather cache
  • Reset the app: Use Android's app info screen to clear app data, which removes favorites, cache, recent searches, and widget configuration
  • Uninstall: Removing the app from your device permanently deletes all locally stored data

Children’s Privacy

SkyCast Pilot is intended for pilots, student pilots, and aviation instructors and is not directed at children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected with an updated "Effective Date" at the top of this policy. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
